No, Not Again…

He didn’t let her go. Zoya tried to get away, or at least she thought she did. She didn’t kick him in the nuts and she didn’t elbow him in the gut, but she felt herself moving, resisting. Aidan held her firmly, but not painfully and not to the point where there was fear. No, nothing like fear emanated here, instead something else was taking root.

Zoya tried desperately to find her own footing here. Sure, there was an attraction, a really strong one. But physical attractions had never been a problem for her. And to date, they hadn’t proved successful either. This wasn’t who she was. That woman who slept with any man that turned her on was not who Zoya had aspired to be all her life.

Aidan McKinley was much stronger than she was, on levels Zoya didn’t even want to explore, at this moment. He saw things, knew things, made her feel things…and it was a mistake. All of it was a mistake she might not ever recover from, because with Aidan, Zoya was afraid the physical could also lead to something dangerously emotional.

When his palm cupped her breast, his warm lips scraped along her ear and down her neck, there was something more. As she’d feared, it wasn’t just lust—no, that was fast and hot and pierced through her like a perfectly aimed arrow. This was different. It was slow, like a barely burning candle, and it licked at her gently from the touch of his hands against hers, to the look of concern as he listened to her, even down to the way his grasp now felt more like an embrace.

Aidan was different. She’d known that from the moment she first met him. And the difference wasn’t as simple as the color of his skin, or even his occupation. It was deeper and more intense than anything she’d ever imagined.

“You’re an FBI agent,” she whispered, her voice gruff as his tongue left a scorching trail along her neck. “I’m a suspect.”

“I’m a man,” was his initial response as if the hard bulge pressing into her bottom wasn’t proof enough of that fact. “And you’re a woman.”

Thank the good Lord, Zoya felt like screaming.

“I’m married,” she heard herself say instead.

Aidan stilled. He slowly removed his lips from her neck. His arms loosened around her.

“You’re right,” he said, taking a step back.

Her body recognized the loss immediately and it took everything in her not to turn around and grab hold of him to continue what he’d been doing. But she didn’t. She couldn’t. And so she walked out of the room without saying another word.

Zoya had been down this road before and was now suffering the consequences. As much as Aidan McKinley and his fine Irish self was tempting the hell out of her, she had to be stronger. She had to be faithful. This time.

DVDs sat in piles that tilted over as Leila lay across the bottom half of the bed. She’d showered and slipped into a cheetah print silk robe and slippers.
